Clone High is set in a high school in Exclamation! U.S.A., a town that is secretly being run as a military experiment called "Operation: Spread Eagle", where historical figures are cloned to someday run the world. The students at the local school are all clones of famous historical figures, including Abe Lincoln, Joan of Arc, Gandhi, Cleopatra, and JFK, among others, created by eccentric government scientist, Principal Scudworth, who works for The Secret Board of Shadowy Figures secretly plots to steal the clones away from them to open his clone-themed amusement park, Cloney Island.
The teenage clones live out their lives at high school, where they all experience love, hate, angst, pain, sexiness, and a myriad of other teenage emotions, as they navigate their complex relationships with one another and endure the stressful and experience that is high school and also struggle to try and live up to the names of the great historical figures they were all cloned from.
Gandhi is the tritagonist of Clone High. He is a 16-year-old clone of Indian peace activist, Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi is a goofy, high-energy, party animal who goes to Clone High with his best friends, Abe Lincoln and Joan of Arc. He debuted in the series premiere, "Escape to Beer Mountain: A Rope of Sand". He is voiced by Michael McDonald.
Although Gandhi's impulsive nature and overall stupidity regularly leads to him getting himself into all sorts of wacky shenanigans, he seldom loses sight of his main goal in life, which is to live up to the name of the great historical figure he was cloned from.
Gandhi's portrayal in the show sparked real-life controversy among the Hindu community in India, with masses of people getting offended over their idol being so disrespectfully depicted as such a buffoonish and unreliable figure. This was enough to lead people staging a hunger strike outside of the MTV tower in India, protesting to have the show cancelled, which it eventually was.
In the 2023, reboot of the show, Gandhi was notably absent from the series, being written off as still being frozen in the flash freezer, (which is where he was last seen in the finale of the show's original run). So far, he has never made any full appearances in the reboot, aside from a few brief mentions and cameos.
