Don't You Get It? Sports Are Huge in This Town is the second episode of Season 3 of Clone High, and the 25th episode of the overall series.
Synopsis[]
Scudworth takes Frida under his wing, causing the would-be artist to consider a more lucrative career... in competitive snorkeling.
Plot[]
In 1965, Cinnamon J. Scudworth was an Olympic snorkeler, who trained with his coach, Schneider Snorkelle. Scudworth used to be at the top of his game before he blew it all at the National Snorkeling Invitational in Big City, U.S.A., by eating less than 30 minutes before swimming and giving himself tummy cramps, losing him the game and disgracing him from ever competing in Olympic snorkeling again.
In present day, after witnessing the Clone High Snorkeling Team lose yet another game, Principal Scudworth recruits Frida to join the team, recognizing her speed-counting talent. Frida initially refuses, as she plans on going into art school and fears taking up a second extra curricular would be too overwhelming for her. Scudworth notices that Frida makes a lot of paintings for Cleopatra, which she hates. Scudworth convinces Frida to join by telling her that if she becomes a successful snorkeler, she can become rich and use that money to buy Cleo expensive stuff that she'll actually enjoy, as opposed to her garbage paintings.
Harriet and the cheerleading squad practice their reverse pyramid, with Marie Antoinette serving as the base. Marie breaks apart under the pressure of the pyramid, leaving Harriet to look for a new base before the college recruiters come to see them at the big game. Joan and the Bleacher Creatures spy on them from the bleachers. Topher gets the idea to have Joan infiltrate the cheerleading squad from within and cause another Cheermageddon. Topher retells how some years ago, Gertrude Stein was on the cheerleading squad and messed up a sign that was supposed to say "yell together" by holding the lowercase "y" upside down to make it look like an "h", now reading "hell together". This incident distracted the football team and made them lose the big game, sabotaging Gertrude's chances of ever getting into college. Topher plans on causing another incident like this to happen, ruining Harriet's chances of getting into college. Joan has her reservations about betraying her friend, until Harriet makes the name "Joan" into a slang term for "ruin something for everybody".
Frida competes in the next big snorkeling game and wins the competition by just one point, winning Clone High their first ever game. This catches the attention of a snorkeling recruiter, who happens to be none other than Schneider Snorkelle. Schneider offers to make Frida part of the Schneider Snorkeling family, with $5,000 as a signing bonus. This also gives Scudworth a chance to redeem himself. If Frida Kahlo wins, Scudworth will earn himself a place on the coaching team, so long as he doesn't Joan it up again.
Joan auditions to be the new pyramid base and proves to be the only applicable contender, by catching all the cheerleaders Genghis Khan threw into the air. This gives Harriet no choice but to let Joan onto her team, even though she's still mad at her. When Joan joins the team, Harriet reluctantly admits that Joan did a pretty good job, though she still hates her. Joan sees this as a sign that she's earning Harriet's respect back. Topher tells Joan their plan for betrayal, which is switching out the letters in the sign "Clone High" to instead say "Bone High". Joan is hesitant to do this, seeing as how this betrayal could sabotage her chances of becoming Harriet's friend again.
During a montage, Scudworth trains Frida in snorkeling, Frida wins more games, and also buys Cleo more expensive stuff. Later, at El Montículo de Hierba, Frida and all her friends have a party to celebrate. Scudworth says that next Friday will be the day of the game against GESH High School, which will determine whether or not they'll get a place in the Professional Snorkeling Invitational. Cleo reminds Frida that she had an art expo to go to on Friday but Frida never heard back from the art college about her work, so she's considering giving up art and just focusing on snorkeling instead.
Harriet and Joan discuss the upcoming big snorkeling game and Harriet stresses the importance of doing a flawless job at cheerleading and finds herself getting closer to forgiving Joan, making the latter even more hesitant to betray her again. This is only made worse, when Joan sees that Gertrude Stein works as a lowly old janitor at Clone High, proving just how much of a life-ruining disaster it would be for Harriet if she pulled another Cheermageddon on her.
Scudworth gets a call from Frida's dream college but Scudworth turns them down and lies, saying that Frida wants nothing to do with them. Scudworth also lies to Frida and says that she got rejected from the art expo. This disappoints Frida and brings her to the conclusion that snorkeling is her only option. Mr. Butlertron shoots Scudworth a dirty look.
Before entering the game against GESH, Frida makes one last painting for Scudworth, which he doesn't even bother looking at. Cleo witnesses how Scudworth discarded Frida's art and angrily tells him to look at the painting that she made for him. When Scudworth sees the artwork, he is mesmerized by its beauty and then regrets his decision. Scudworth dives into the pool and takes Frida out of the game to tell her that she got accepted into the art expo. He tells Schneider Snorkelle to go "shuck" himself and sends Cleo and Frida on their way to the art expo on horseback.
Joan has the "CL" nameplate switched out with a "B" but makes a last-minute decision to betray Harriet, so she tells her not to hold up the sign. Harriet trusts Joan and the sign spells out "ONE HIGH". This delights the fans, as they all think it's a message of unity, saying that despite their differences, the clones are all together as one. The Bleacher Creatures see this as a drug reference, meaning that this school is "one high" bunch of stoners and they appreciate Joan's so-called "betrayal". As such, Joan has satisfied both sides. Joan tells Harriet about her initial plans to betray Harriet and apologizes but Harriet forgives her for this, saying that she just wants to be friends with her again ... albeit in private, since she's still a social outcast.
Principal Scudworth sits around, sadly as without Frida, Clone High High School loses to GESH High School. Frida comes in later to tell Scudworth that she won an award for her artwork at the art expo but believes that Scudworth deserves it more. She gives him her golden medal, which Scudworth greatly appreciates. Scudworth puts the medal, along with Frida's painting in the trophy case. The painting that Frida made is revealed to depict Principal Scudworth as an Olympic snorkeler, holding a first place trophy for his greatness.
