Sleep of Faith: La Ru D'Awakening is the fifth episode of Clone High.
Synopsis[]
Abe agrees to be Cleo's study buddy for the PXJT's but she keeps him up all night. Meanwhile, Gandhi becomes a trucker and Mr. B has a rivalry with Scangrade.
Plot[]
The PXJTs are coming to Clone High and all the clones are worried about studying for the very important test. Cleo seduces Abe into being her study buddy. This soon becomes a problem for Abe, when he stays awake for 2 days, helping Cleo with her studies. When he announces this at The Grassy Knoll, a mysterious stranger overhears him and tells him how important it is he get some much-needed sleep. He details how one time, he saw a cop falling asleep at the wheel one night and he tried to wake him up by gently nudging his car with his truck, which caused the cop to drive off the road and crash into the ground, crippling him for life. Abe ignores this story completely but Gandhi seems impressed by how this guy owns a truck. This inspires Gandhi to become a trucker, himself, so that he can live a life of truck driving instead of having to take the PXJTs.
The Secret Board of Shadowy Figures brings Principal Scudworth into their government lair to tell them about how the PXJTs are actually an evil plan they're using to help them take over the world. The machine that grades the PXJT tests is a giant robot named Scan Grade, who is fueled by the lead from #2 pencils and pretty soon, he's gunna have enough power to take over the world. Mr. Butlertron is not impressed with Scan Grade, having had a bit of a rivalry with Scan Grade in the past.
While grocery shopping, Abe's reflexes are revealed to be shot on account of his lack of sleep. This makes him fail to grab his grocery cart, when it rolls away and crashes into a stack of animal crackers. Joan tries to convince Abe to finally get some sleep by telling her a big secret but she can't find it in her to tell him since it's such a BIG secret. Abe gets a call from Cleo, placing an order for some food he needs her to pick up and Abe gets into his car. Joan warns him not to drive because he might crash into a box of real animals just like his cart crashed into a box of animal crackers from earlier. Abe doesn't think this will happen and goes for a drive late that night. At this time, a zookeeper boards all the pandas in existence onto his truck and drives them off and Abe nods off while driving, nearly crashing into the pandas. Fortunately, he just misses them and the pandas all flip him off as their truck goes away.
Abe tells Cleo about the disaster that he just nearly averted last night and lets her know he's going to need sleep. Cleo tells Abe that she was hoping she could spend the night with him but since he wants to get some sleep, she'll spend the night with someone else, like JFK, who is ready and willing to stay up all night long. This convinces Abe to do a complete 180 on his ideas of sleeping and instead promises to spend the night awake with Cleo, hoping to finally get some sex out of her.
Mr. Butlertron profanely complains about Scan Grade for being such a pretentious show-off and Scudworth just doesn't get why he's being such an asshole about him. Scan Grade comes in to insult Mr. Butlertron for wearing a woman's apron like some kind of a nance.
Gandhi goes for a truck ride with the creepy old stranger guy from The Grassy Knoll to learn all about being a trucker. During their time together, the trucker secretly teaches Gandhi about how to take the PXJTs with parallels to the life of a trucker. Gandhi ends up learning a bunch about how to prepare for the PXJTs, without knowing it. He educates Gandhi in how to use the process of elimination, helps him do the mental work to solve train problems, and introducing a bunch of fancy new words to his vocabulary. Although Gandhi initially found this trip to be a let-down, since all this was done for a stinkin' metaphor, he's surprised to realize how much smart stuff he apparently knows now, and the truck tells him that he's officially prepares to take the PXJTs.
Abe spends the night at Cleo's House to read her everything in the prepcourse book and gets 0 sleep that night, while Cleo sleeps all comfy and cozy in her bed, hoping to have Abe's teachings get absorbed into her brain, while she sleeps. When she awakens the next morning, she realizes she didn't retain anything, making all of Abe's work for naught. Abe also didn't get to have a single sexual encounter with her during this whole ordeal.
When the PXJTs finally happen, everyone in the school gets busy on taking the test, except for Abe, who is so sleep-deprived that he passes out right there and sleeps through the whole test, which makes him fail.

Trivia[]
- The first half of the title is a pun on the term "Leap of Faith" and the second half of the title is a pun on the term "Rude Awakening".
- This episode premiered in Canada after "Homecoming: A Shot in D'Arc", causing a continuity error in the Canadian broadcast.
- For some reason, during the recap of the previous episode, "Film Fest: Tears of a Clone", clips of Cleo and JFK arguing in "A.D.D.: The Last D is for Disorder" and Gandhi, taking his clothes off from "Episode Two: Election Blu-Galoo", was shown, instead of anything from the actual episode.
- First episode to have major swearing in it. Mr. Butlertron drops the F-bomb at least three times, which is censor-bleeped out in-universe.
- Abe and Cleo go on their first date.
- Cleo told Abe to take her pet cat to the speech therapist, which means that she apparently has a pet cat.
- First appearance of Gandhi's real foster mom and dad and the first we see inside of his house and delve more into his Judaism. We now see his parents are absolute stereotypes and the house is plastered with cultural items and they only eat Jewish food.
- Apparently, not only is there a high school for clones, but also a college called Clone State. Cleo mentioned that she only wanted to date a guy, who'd make it into college, so she can piggy back on their success. JFK also wore an orange sweater with "Clone State" printed on it in white text.
- Joan reveals that she has a tattoo on her leg of a dolphin, saying "Whazuuup?" and that she still regrets it to the day.
Continuity[]
- JFK tries to get Cleo back, after being dumped by her in "A.D.D.: The Last D is for Disorder", but fails as she falls into the arms of Abe in this episode.
- Cleo also mentions this being the second time she and JFK break up, following their first known breakup in "Escape to Beer Mountain: A Rope of Sand".
- In the girl's locker room, Cleo is seen putting on a cheerleading uniform. She was previously shown as a cheerleader in "Film Fest: Tears of a Clone".
- Joan of Arc delves more into what she did at her summer camp, which was previously touched upon at the beginning of the first episode, saying that she went to a sleep away camp, because throughout her sophomore year, she had serious problems with sleep deprivation.
Cultural References[]
- The PXJT is a parody on PSAT. Since PSAT stands for "Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test", it's unknown what PXJT stands for.
- Gandhi references to American Pie and the scene where James had sex with the pie. He claims to not remember the scene he's referencing, because he fell asleep in the theater, while watching it, on account of staying up all last night in anticipation. Abe reminds him that he can always rent it, and so Gandhi later watches the scene with Joan.
Historical References[]
- The chalkboard at the beginning of the episode reads "Tesla Rules". This implies that Nikola Tesla is a student at Clone High High School.
- Cleopatra apparently has a cat that she wanted Abe to take to the speech therapist. This is a reference to how the original Cleopatra loved cats and had several pet cats living in her pyramid with her.
- JFK drove his car and said "Nothing bad happens to the Kennedys", before the car flipped over and crushed him. This was a reference to the Kennedy Assanination happening to him, while he was in a car.
- Joan exhibits more knowledge on her clonemother, than she did in "A.D.D.: The Last D is for Disorder", now knowing about her ultimate fate being burned at the stake when she was but a teenager.
